Asma al-murtadhA
About me
I am a final year PhD candidate at the Welcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology (WTCCB) – Edinburgh, UK. I work in a structural biology lab where we try to characterize structures of proteins and protein complexes using biochemical and biophysical techniques.
In my free time, I like painting, website designing, and blogging. My passion for painting and making websites, guided me to graphic design especially designs related to biological and medical sciences. My journey started in 2014 when I was doing my master’s in molecular biology and needed some figures to represent my research and simplify the project idea. I managed to learn Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator which helped to make nice representative figures and illustrations for my research.
During my PhD, I continued developing my skills and experiencing new fields in graphic design. I took several online courses to gain more knowledge.
I do believe that the visual representation of science is a necessity nowadays for educational materials and for public engagement events. Graphic design is an excellent tool for making complicated scientific or medical concepts understandable for general public and students.
During my studies, I accumulated a solid knowledge in medical subjects such as anatomy, pathology, physiology, and pharmacology as well as in molecular and structural biology. This inspires me to engage in creative work where I can come up with a unique perspective or idea for my research.
I may not get a chance to enrol in a scientific or medical design course, but with my knowledge that I always seek to develop, I will ensure to add value to your company and be a cornerstone in your team.
I am a very adaptable individual, As you can see from my resume, I’ve had the opportunity to work in various environments and I’ve managed to thrive in every single one.
I am hardworking, dependable and pay attention to details. I have the drive, confidence, resilience to get things done and the flexibility to work as a team.
